#Open the mosques day!

In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.

Surah Al- Asr (103 V. 4 “ Except for those who believe and do good works, and exhort one another to accept truth, and exhort one another to be steadfast

I stumbled on a video “I went to a Mosque…Look what I saw!” on youtube and the video gave me a different perspective of addressing the rising case of islamophobia in the world.

It is a fact that Islamophobia is now resident in Nigeria and even has a desk in your work-place.

The Islamophobes are generally people who are uneducated about Islam whose only source of information about Islam is either what the media paints for them or what they have inferred from the actions of ISIS.

Allah enjoins us to be a poster for Islam by ensuring that our actions show what Islam teaches. So how do we put Islam on the front burner by showing what islam really is?

Firstly, there is the need to open the mosques to non-Muslims. Let them come into our mosques, learn about Islam, provide answers to the nagging questions they have under a social atmosphere with biscuits and tea to go with it. Islam has answers to all the questions anyone may want to ask. So let’s open our masjids with the hashtag #Openthemosquesday.

Secondly, we as Muslims need to move onto the mainstream media. Muslims should be at the forefront of human rights issues, advocacy and fighting for justice everywhere. Islam is a religion of the intellects, so let us exhibit our intellectualism to the world and stop playing second fiddle.

We must be aware that no religion has witnessed such scrutiny like Islam. The scrutiny will continue and will not stop anytime soon. What is required of us is embarking on the journey of learning and re-learning to ensure that we can match the changes in the world with answers provided in the Quran and the hadith.

Let’s engage people of other faiths with courtesy. The media has fed them with wrong information as anything that has “islam” on it is met with trepidation and suspicion. It can not change immediately. And whilst we engage them, Allah enjoins us not to mock other people’s faith, unless we are ready to accept the mpockery of our own religion to.

So Brothers and Sisters in Islam, let’s start this movement.

May Allah assist us.
