ONCE UPON A TIME

“Praise be to Allah, we seek His help and His forgiveness. We seek refuge with Allah from the evil of our own souls and from our bad deeds. Whomsoever Allah guides will never be led astray, and whomsoever Allah leaves astray, no one can guide. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, the One, having no partner. And I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger”.

I hated hospitals. The smell (that peculiar smell) haunts me and I usually have to visit my Optician in return to get the smell out of my system. I am not sure where the dread grew from, but I just detested the hospital…like a gloomy cloud hung in the air. Aside the smell, I am also unable to bear someone shrieking in pain without letting tears drop.

So I stayed off hospitals… Read the rest of this entry »

9/11: FBI’s Final Report

Osama is not a product of Pakistan or Afghanistan. He is a creation of America. Thanks to America, Osama is in every home (today). As a military man, I know you can never fight and win against someone who can shoot at you once and then run off and hide while you have to remain eternally on guard. You have to attack the source of your enemy’s strength. In America’s case, that’s not Osama or Saddam or anyone else. The enemy is ignorance. And the only way to defeat it is to build relationships with these people, to draw them into the modern world with education and business. Otherwise the fight will go on forever.”  ¯ Greg Mortenson (Three Cups of Tea: One Man’s Mission to Promote Peace … One School at a Time) Read the rest of this entry »

I have dreams like every young Nigerian (I have been an aspiring rapper for ages and I am currently an aspiring Islamic Scholar) and that dream doesn’t include being a terrorist who moves about slitting throats under the guise of Islam. Come to think of it, the only animal I have mustered the courage to slaughter since I was born ended up chasing me out of the kitchen because I didn’t slit the throat properly – in line with the dictates of my religion which require that one is merciful to the animals that you consume. In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.

“Invite (all) to the Way of your Rabb (Cherisher and Sustainer) with wisdom and beautiful preaching; and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious: for your Rabb knows best, who have strayed from His Path, and who receive guidance.” (16:125)

I had the pleasure of reading the written pains of a sister on https://wanderinglass.com/2016/05/02/you-nigerian-muslim-men-are-awks at the beginning of the week. I had planned to write something in defence of our sisters, but extending the above subject matter was too good an opportunity to miss in shaa Allah. So I had to keep that work in progress defence of mine in a safe deposit. Read the rest of this entry »

Surah Al- Furqan (25:47) “ It is He who has made the night as a covering mantle for you and (who has made) sleep for (a short) rest (as well as a sign of eternal rest – the death), and (has made) the day for rising up and going about (to seek livelihood and also a sign of Resurrection)”.
